American Airlines Equity Tax Treatment Delay

Find me on:

IRA-sign-reduced-sizeYou should have received a statement Friday, March 27th in regard to a delay in the disposition of the IRA rollover treatment of your equity distribution.

What it means

This delay was not entirely unexpected since pilots were asked to delay taking action on the rollover while guidance was sought from the IRS. It is likely that the IRA rollover will still be available; it will just take some legislative action for it to be done legally in the eyes of the IRS. Whether you are still holding the AA shares, you have sold the equity and spent it or put it into savings has no effect on your eligibility. As with all financial decisions, the decision to roll up to 90% or a lesser amount of your American equity should be looked at on a case-by-case basis, please consult with your advisor before making any decision.
